Ferny Grove is part of the North-West Secondary Schools District in terms of sporting involvement. In 2016, the North West District will be running interschool sporting options in the form of a summer and winter season. Sports played in the district competitions include AFL (boys only), rugby union (boys only), netball (girls only), basketball, soccer, touch and volleyball.

Interschool competition will be available to all Years 7, 8 and 9 students selected on the appropriate line of classes, commonly known as sport line. Students selected on this line will be given the opportunity to trial for teams at the beginning of each season. The summer season traditionally begins early in Term 1 and the winter season begins at the start of Term 3. Once selected, students play a series of rounds against teams from the Northern Conference of the district (Albany Creek SHS and Northside Christian College).

At the conclusion of the round matches, students play a cross conference final round against a team from the Southern Conference (Kelvin Grove State College, Mitchelton SHS, The Gap SHS, Prince of Peace Lutheran College). A district winner is determined after the cross-conference matches.

Transport to venues off campus is provided, as are specialist uniforms such as jerseys or bibs. There is a cost associated with interschool sport which is applied to all students participating in a season.

Students in Years 7, 8 and 9 not selected in the sport line will be involved in a series of intra-school sporting options in 2016.
